AdminHistoryJohn Frederick Goode was a teacher at Handsworth New Road School at the outbreak of the Second World War. The location of the school near a number of potential industrial targets prompted the Education Committee to decide to evacuate the pupils to Badsey in Worcestershire. Shortly after arriving in Badsey Goode wrote the parents of the evacuees informing them that their children were safe and well. The letters in this collection are replies to those of Goode.

In addition to his work with the Education Committee Goode was an active supporter of the Stourbridge Labour Party and was elected the seventh Mayor of Oldbury in 1941.
