| AdminHistory | Mary Capper (1755 - 1845) was born in Rugeley, Staffordshire to William and Rebecca Capper and was one of a large family of the Anglican faith. In 1776 she went to France to recover her health and for education and she continued to consider different forms of religion. She went to stay with her brother James and his wife at Wilmington, Sussex, 1781-1782. In 1784 she went to stay with her brother Jasper in London who had joined the Society of Friends and she began to attend Meetings. In 1788 she was admitted into membership of the Society of Friends at the Peel Monthly Meeting in London. In the following year she moved to Birmingham where she spent the remainder of her life, except the years 1811 - 1816 when she lived in Leominster. In 1794 she was acknowledged as a Minister of the Society of Friends in Birmingham. From that date until her death she travelled in the Birmingham area in the Ministry, and also visited Meetings in other parts of the country. On many of her religious visits she was joined by her friend Mary Beesley of Worcester, later Mary Lewis. |
