DescriptionThe minutes of the Watch Committee are handwritten and printed and signed by the committee chairman. Many of the minutes dated from 1930 are bound with the minutes of the Public Collections Sub-Committee, and its predecessor (see BCC/1/AC/4). These main committee minute volumes are also entitled 'Street Collections' or 'Public Collections' on the spine. Other committee minute volumes that do not contain these minutes are also entitled as such on the spine, and therefore the catalogue must be referred to at all times when finding the relevant minute book in which the sub-committee records were bound. The minutes include annual reports and accounts of the Street Collections Committee (see BCC/1/AC/4); annual reports of the Chief Constable; reports of the Judicial Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/AC/3); information relating to serving officers, police buildings and equipment; copies of Traffic Regulation Orders to be enforced; applications made for gaming licenses; comparative tables of fatal and non-fatal road accidents; lists of persons to be authorised as school crossing patrols (with maps detailing location of local patrols); petitions made by members of the public; and plan drawings detailing major road works and thoroughfares. The minutes also detail instances of awards granted to police officers and members of the public for acts of bravery. Some of the minute books in the sequence are missing, having never been deposited at Birmingham Archives and Heritage (see BCC/1/AC/1/1/2 and 23 below).
