| Description | The majority of later minute volumes are indexed. The minutes are handwritten and printed and signed by the committee chairman Minutes BCC/1/AC/2/1/1 - 14 and 26 onwards are in uniformly titled minute volumes. Minutes BCC/1/AC/2/1/15 - 25 are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/AC/8). The minutes include accounts and estimates of annual income and expenditure for the department; information relating to staffing, fire stations and equipment; and the reports of the Chief Officer of the department relating to all manner of business concerning fire risk and prevention. There are also lists of commercial buildings and private residences deemed a fire hazard, and details of the address, name of landlord, occupants of property, and a short description of means of fire escape and likely risks. The minutes dated 1929 - 1935 (BCC/1/AC/2/1/25 - 31) detail the progress of the designing and construction of the new Central Fire Station opened in 1935, with schedules of properties occupying the new site (see also catalogue record BCC/1/CO/1). |
