| Description | Although strictly relating to the cemeteries function of the Council, the files were originally marked with a label entitled 'General Purposes Committee'. Although there was no specific sub-committee appointed by the General Purposes Committee to deal with the cemetery, the papers and notes on the files do refer to specific minutes of the committee, and have therefore been listed as other administrative records of the General Purposes Committee for these purposes. Although the bundle of deeds and other records (see BCC/1/AG/1/9/2/1) actually date from a long time before the records in sub series BCC/1/AG/1/9/1 they have been listed after these records as the actual business of dealing with the cemetery did not take place until the year it was purchased by the Corporation from the Birmingham Church of England Cemetery Company in 1951. From 1919 the care of municipal cemeteries came under the jurisdiction of the Parks Committee (see BCC/1/BN), therefore information about Warstone Lane Cemetery after 1951 should appear in the relevant minute books. |
