Date1930 - 1939
DescriptionMinutes indexed. The minutes are printed and signed by the committee chairman. The minutes are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/AM/26/1). The minutes include detailed reports of the various representations or visitations made by the Medical Officer of Health to properties that fell within areas of Birmingham condemned as unhealthy. The majority of the properties comprised the remaining slum districts of central Birmingham, such as Bagot Street, Moland Street, Staniforth Street and some isolated pockets around Corporation Street that had not been dealt with by the Improvement Scheme of 1875. There are details on the acquisition or compulsory purchase of land and property prior to the instigation of renovation or demolition work and details of trade disturbance allowances made to shopkeepers whose businesses might have been affected by the works. There are also progress reports on demolition and improvement works undertaken, including some interesting details relating to delays in finding suitable alternative accommodation for tenants affected by these works.
