| Description | Minutes indexed. The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/AN/14). The minutes include very detailed reports and information relating to departmental procedure in general as well as the market extension, including visits to insanitary shops and market stalls, information relating to leases or rentals, printed reports of the committee to Council, Treasurer's reports relating to individual vendors, some information relating to staff and salaries, statistics relating to the number of inspectors employed, meat sold at markets and the like, and related accounts, correspondence and other papers. The minutes of 16 May 1927 include a detailed report to the Markets and Fairs Committee regarding the work of the Birmingham United Committee for the Promotion of Improved Treatment of Animals in Slaughterhouses (see minute 19 in BCC/1/AN/8/1/1 and other minutes after this date). The minutes of the 30 April 1930 include a cutting of an article from the 'Birmingham Post' of 28 April 1930 regarding criticism of the Markets and Fairs Department's new meat grading scheme (see minutes 137 - 139 in BCC/1/AN/8/1/1). |
