DescriptionThe Archives, Heritage and Photography Department of the Library of Birmingham holds a vast number of departmental records. These include strategic records relating to the running of the library service citywide, many of which were kept with the Secretariat's Office at the old Central Library, as well as operational records relating to the staffing and running of the existing Central Library buildings at Ratcliffe Place and Chamberlain Square and other branch libraries. Other records such as stock and location books and card indexes also technically form part of the departmental records of Birmingham Libraries Services, even though they are still technically current operational records used by customers and staff for answering enquiries and locating items across our collections.

The departmental records of Birmingham Libraries Department have not yet been catalogued, and are in the process of being documented and added to our systems.
