| Description | Minutes indexed. The minutes are handwritten and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are in the appropriately titled committee minute volume. The minute books for the newly appointed Sewage Committee (BCC/1/AW/1/1/1) continued the numerical minute sequence from volume BCC/1/AV/1/1/1 uninterrupted. The minutes include very detailed reports of information gathered as part of the inquiry made into current sewage treatment and waste collection in the city of Birmingham, the fitness of certain lands in Birmingham and surrounding region for sewage treatment plants. There are reports made as a result of visits to other cities such as Liverpool and Manchester to compare their sewerage provisions (see minutes of 16 August 1872, minutes 59 - 60, in BCC/1/AV/1/1/1). Also included in the minutes are capital accounts and other financial information, and related correspondence and papers. The minutes of 19 July 1871 include a circular containing a list of questions asked as part of the inquiry (see minute 20 in BCC/1/AV/1/1/1). There are also further legal proceedings concerning the case of Sir Charles Adderley, which are continued (and described in more detail in the catalogue entry) in the records of the Sewage Committee (see BCC/1/AW). |
