AdminHistoryThe Improvement Sub-Committee was appointed in September 1875, and comprised of three members of the main Improvement Committee. The sub-committee's main function was to 'confer and advise' with the Martin and Chamberlain, a notable Birmingham-based architectural practice comprising of John Henry Chamberlain and William and Henry Martin. At this time the architects were designated as the improvement scheme planners, with reference to ongoing projects of the main Improvement Committee. The sub-committee did, however, deal with other matters placed before it, such as rents and supervision of buildings. The sub-committee operated until 1899, when the function was transferred to the Estate Committee (see BCC/1/AM).
