Date1922 - 1948
DescriptionMinute volumes indexed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes were compiled in typescript format. The volumes were originally accessioned under the reference number MS 229. There are no minutes for the period November 1922 - December 1926 or October 1938 - October 1940 (see BCC/1/BH/14/2/1/1 and 4). The Industrial Schools After Care (later Home Office Schools After Care, then Approved Schools After Care Sub-Committee) appears to have met quarterly, and the minutes mainly comprise lists of after care cases submitted every month to the sub-committee with the name of the child (noted by name if child removed from after-care register as reached 18 years of age or because they had been re-admitted to the school), the name of the school they attended, name of ‘Helper’ assigned to them for after-care work which can be an individual or a department or organisation, date of report and occasionally details of offence; quarterly reports of boys and girls returned to Birmingham from schools outside of the city for forwarding to the Probation Committee, listing the name of the school attended, name and address of child, dates relating to committal, type of present employment and other remarks.
