| AdminHistory | A Teaching Staff Sub-Committee was appointed at the very first meeting of the Elementary Education Sub-Committee in April 1903. Its remit was to examine applications by persons for appointment as Assistant Teachers, Manual Instructors and later Domestic Subjects Teachers, and to make recommendations on desirable appointments. Assistant teachers appointed to Voluntary and Council Schools also had to report before the sub-committee before they could be approved by the Education Committee.
The committee consisted of the Chairman of the Elementary then Primary Education Sub-Committee, the Chairmen of the District School Managers and approximately seven other members. From November 1945 a representative of the Secondary Education Sub-Committee also sat on the sub-committee. By 1960, as the majority of work of the committee was concerned with interviewing teachers, the Primary Education Sub-Committee felt that the sub-committee's work could be transferred to the Primary Education Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/BH/2/1) and Secondary Education Sub-Committees (see BCC/1/BH/3/1) as appropriate. |
