AdminHistoryIn June 1911, the Elementary Education Sub-Committee resolved that a Day Trade Schools Sub-Committee be appointed to enquire into and report on the advisability of establishing day trade schools in Birmingham. Trade schools were suitable for young people who had recently left elementary education and were already in employment, and could provide workshop instruction for perhaps a three year period requiring attendance of approximately eight hours per week. The proposals of this special sub-committee resulted in day classes being administered by the Technical Education and Evening Schools Sub-Committee from 1913 at sites including the Central Technical School, Aston Technical School and Stirchley Technical Institute (see BCC/1/BH/4/1). The committee appears to have been disbanded in January 1913 in accordance with the dates of the surviving minute book.
