| Description | Most of the minute volumes are alphabetically indexed, although all are signed by the sub-committee Chairman. Volumes BCC/1/BH/3/1/1/38 - 49 have not been indexed, and are clearly marked on the catalogue entries, although separate supplementary and draft indexes are available (see BCC/1/BH/3/1/2, particularly numbers 5 - 19). The minutes are handwritten until the end of 1912, after which they were compiled in typescript format. The minute books were originally accessioned under the reference 280.
The Higher (later Secondary) Education Sub-Committee minute books contains details on all of the sub-committee's main duties as outlined in the administrative history provided in catalogue reference BCC/1/BH/3/1. Throughout the minute books there are references to the names of children and the school they attend, with information on whether a pupil had an accident whilst at school, applications for pupil maintenance allowances, details of unpaid pupil fees, arrangements for special transport of disabled pupils with their address and destination given.
The minutes for the years 1961 - 1967 are accompanied by schedules signed by the Chairman of the Secondary Education Sub-Committee. They include schedules of revised salaries to named teachers in all types of secondary schools, schedules of additional and special allowances to named teachers in secondary education, schedules of appointment of teaching staff in secondary education and schedules of awards made to named pupils in secondary schools, universities, training colleges, and other institutions. |
