AdminHistoryWith the planned extension of the boundaries of the city of Birmingham in 1911, the Attendance, Finance and General Purposes Sub-Committee recommended to the Education Committee the appointment of a special sub-committee who could report on the implications of the enlargement of the city relative to the provision of education within the new city boundary. The City Extension Sub-Committee was consequently appointed and met for the first time in May 1911. It consisted of the Chairman of the Education Committee, the Chairmen of the six main sub-committees (Elementary; Higher; Technical Education and Evening Schools; Special; Sites and Buildings; and Attendance, Finance and General Purposes), Chairmen of the District School Managers and five others. The sub-committee was not an official sub-sub-committee of the Attendance, Finance and General Purposes Sub-Committee but rather a product of their recommendations. It appears that the committee met three times in May, July and October 1911.
