AdminHistoryThe duties of the District School Managers were outlined at their first meetings in April 1903 (see BCC/1/BH/8). With the extension of the city boundaries in 1911 the three District School Manager Committees initially set up in 1903 were each divided in two, making six District School Manager Committees, North-West, North, North-East, South-West, South and South-East, each controlled by a Committee of nine Managers. Having only increased the number of District School Manager Committees in 1911, the Elementary Education Sub-Committee recommended in 1915 the reduction in District School Manager Committees from six back to three for reasons of economy in terms of time, labour and stationery. Each of the new committees was in turn controlled by a Committee of fourteen Managers. The recommendation was heeded and the number of committees was reduced to three again in 1915.
