The minutes are in the two volumes entitled 'Quinton & Harborne Scheme Sub-Committee' and 'South Sub-Committee'. The minutes include much the same information as that contained in the minutes of the main committee (see BCC/1/BL/1/1), except relating specifically to the redevelopment areas specified for south west Birmingham. There are some draft maps depicting the areas designated as part of town planning schemes. There are more detailed reports regarding the development of proposed sites, objections made by property owners and tenants and compensation given as a result of the works for those affected by the developments. The minutes of a meeting of 27 November 1911 include a copy of the draft copy of a town planning scheme for Quinton, Harborne, Edgbaston and Northfield, including some observations made with regard to the impact the schemes might have on the Calthorpe Estate, a major landowner in this part of the city with an interest in developing Edgbaston as an exclusive middle class suburb (see minute 4 in BCC/1/BL/3/1/1). There are other amended copies of the scheme enclosed throughout the minutes of this sub-committee. |
