| Description | Minutes indexed. The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/BM/14). The minutes include reports of visitations of departmental inspectors to city hospitals and sanatoria (with copies of procedures for the conduct of visits); reports, accounts and tenders relating to the extension, repair and maintenance of hospital buildings; tables of fees received by the Medical Officers of the Guardians of the Poor Law for Birmingham for various hospitals; tables relating to the transfer of Poor Law officials to the Public Health Department (see in particular minute volume BCC/1/BM/8/1/1); and other general information relating to staff appointments and finances. The minutes also include some legal papers, reports and appeals, some of which touch on the conduct of medical officials (see minutes of meeting of 21 November 1929 in BCC/1/BM/8/1/1), and there are occasional reports touching on patients who had died from disease or other exceptional circumstances (i.e. accidents) whilst in hospital. Additionally, there are reports of key officials of various workhouse infirmaries and hospitals (particularly Selly Oak Hospital) detailing total numbers of admissions and discharges, numbers of occupied beds and inquests carried out on patients, occasionally detailing the names and other personal information of patients in those hospitals. |
