DescriptionThe minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minutes are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volume (see BCC/1/BO/19). The minutes include accounts and detailed estimates and statements of income and expenditure for city parks and cemeteries during the war years, reports on the utilisation of public spaces during the war, reports on bomb damage to parks and cemeteries, and lists of Parks and Cemeteries Department staff with salaries. There are also reports on the cultivation of public parks and open spaces to improve national food production during the war, including lists of parks scheduled to be cultivated, acreage, situation and description of areas, proposed crops to be grown and additional remarks. The minutes of 12 February 1941 also include a report of the Parks and Cemeteries Department to erect hutment accommodation for families on public parks rendered homeless by air raid damage, in conjunction with the Civil Defence Committee and the City Surveyor, which were eventually to re-house up to 30,000 people (see minutes 19 - 20 in BCC/1/BO/9/1/1).
