| Description | The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. Minutes BCC/1/BP/2/1/1 - 2 are in uniformly titled minute volumes. Minutes BCC/1/BP/2/1/3 onwards are in the appropriately dated combined sub-committee minute volumes (see BCC/1/BP/7). The minutes include mainly detailed copies the reports of the Veterinary Department which include stables accounts, detailing invoices, provender (fodder, hay etc) purchased, horses purchased for various Council departments, present costs of horse keep and quarterly returns of stable expenditure. The reports also include tables detailing the particulars of horses sold, details of staff employed at Corporation stables and some related correspondence. Some minute volumes include details of the hiring of Corporation horses for civic pageants and events (for example, see meeting of 8 March 1939, minute 4158, in BCC/1/BP/2/1/13). The minute volumes covering the Second World War (1939 - 1945) also include information relating to measures taken to deal with panic stricken or wounded animals during air raids (see BCC/1/BP/2/1/14 - 16). |
