AdminHistoryThe Allotments Committee was established following the passing of the Allotments Act that year. The committee was formed from the Allotments Sub-Committee of the Agricultural and Smallholdings Committee (see BCC/1/BX), the minutes of which it refers to. The function of the committee was to lease or purchase (including compulsory purchase) land for allotments for those that sought them, and to equip, supply, protect and maintain the said allotments. After a recommendation by the General Purposes Committee on the 13 January 1964, the Allotments Committee and the Small Holdings Committee were amalgamated. The Chairman of the Allotments Committee reported that this was due to the similar nature of their work, and to provide a better pool of knowledge, thereby improving the overall service.
