TitleRevision Committee examination books
LevelSub Series
Date1912 - 1949
DescriptionThese volumes appear to have been produced by the Revision Departments of the Board of Guardians, before 1930, and of the City Council's Public Assistance Committee, after 1930, apparently to record the contributions towards maintenance made by the parents or guardians of children. Children were chargeable whether they were in a children's home or in a public assistance institution, such as an infirmary. Many of the entries contain considerable detail, although many others contain very little. Information given is usually the names and addresses of the child or children and their parents, sometimes with details of the reasons for the child coming into the care of the Guardians or Committee, and brief notes of revision checks made or scheduled, usually every 13 or 26 weeks. Some entries contain information added at intervals until the child was 18.

Entries in these volumes initially appear as if they do not follow any coherent order; however, they seem to have been entered by revision date. Therefore, although large sections of the volumes are in approximate admission date order, there are many entries which do not follow this sequence, and are dated much earlier than the bulk of those in the volume. It appears that these are probably continuations from earlier volumes, or revisions made of older cases.

Volumes in this series are numbered on the spine or front cover. Volume 1 has not survived.

Many entries include what appear to be case paper reference numbers. The case papers have not survived.

Dates in this series relate to those given in the 'Dates' or 'Admitted' column of each volume.
