AdminHistoryGeorge VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth were unable to visit Birmingham as planned for the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the granting of the Charter to the City of Birmingham. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester attended on their behalf and also visited officially opened the BIrmingham Hospitals' Centre in Edgbaston and the Medical School Buildings at the University of Birmingham.
