| AdminHistory | The Air Raid After-Care Sub-Committee was established in December 1940, and consisted of seven or eight main committee members. Its purpose was to provide care for people made homeless as a result of bombing, and to provide mobile canteens and communal feeding kitchens and other relief. The sub-committee developed from a special sub-committee of the Emergency Committee (see BCC/1/CL/2) concerned with feeding of homeless people caused by Air Raids. In December 1945, the name of the sub-committee was changed to the British Restaurants Sub-Committee, to reflect the ending of air-raids. In May 1947, the Civic Restaurants Act required the setting up of a dedicated main committee, which was in fact done in November of that year, and the British Restaurants were transferred to this new Catering and Entertainments Committee (see BCC/1/CR). |
