| Description | Minute volumes indexed. The minutes are printed and signed by the committee Chairman. The minute books contain copies of the quarterly returns to the Council Committee. The minutes also include various sub-committee reports, including reports of sub-committees that did not come under the jurisdiction of the Health Committee (i.e. Fire Brigade Committee Ambulance Sub-Committee), the reports of the Finance and General Purposes Sub-Committee, which include returns detailing the work of the various offices, hospitals and other institutions that fell under the care of the committee, reports of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, reports relating to specific welfare functions home care and home nursing service, mental health care, child welfare and nursery provision, statistics (including comparisons of service provision and departmental expenditure relative to other local government areas), accounts and statements of income and expenditure, and related correspondence and papers. There are also lists of grants allocated to householders for home improvement purposes, in line with the provisions set down in various public health legislation (including name and address of householder). There is an extensive report into the organisation and functions of the City of Birmingham Public Health Department for July 1965 (see BCC/1/CS/1/1/30). |
