AccessConditionsThe records of the Homes and Residential Accommodation Sub-Committee are extremely sensitive, and often name individual adult cases and people in care. The records have therefore been closed for 100 years in compliance with the Data Protection Act, 1998.
AdminHistoryThe Homes and Residential Accommodation Sub-Committee was formed in May 1949, and consisted of thirteen members. It had been formed from the previous Emergency and Night Hostels Sub-Committee (see BCC 1/CU/4) and the 'Homes for the Aged and Infirm Sub-Committee' (see BCC 1/CU/5). The remit of this sub-committee were defined thus; to have control and administration of the residential accommodation and temporary accommodation provided at the Dudley Road Infirmary and at any homes, hostels and other establishments as now or in the future may be provided by the Council; to appoint staff and administer all related staffing matters; and to carry out repair works and arrange for regular committee visits. As such, responsibility fell on this sub-committee for Quinton Hall, Highbury Hall, Witton Hall and the Summer Hill Home. This sub-committee remained in operation until the Local Authority Social Services Act, 1970, when the Children’s Committee (see BCC 1/CT) and the Welfare Committee were merged into the new Social Services Committee (see BCC 1/DJ).
