AdminHistoryThe 1952 Coronation Celebrations Committee was appointed in July 1952 to consider the financial arrangements and organisation of the festivities to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953. A report of the Town Clerk dated 28 July 1952 suggested that the celebrations should largely follow the arrangements made for the Coronation of King George VI on 12 May 1937, although with an estimated budget this time of £73,145. The Festival of Britain Committee only appears to have met twice prior to the festival's commencement, on the 28 July 1852 and the 5 November 1952 and was disbanded following the conclusion of the festivities in June 1953.
