| AdminHistory | This sub-committee was formed in January 1971, but had in fact been the previous responsibility of the Children’s Committee (see BCC/1/CT). Its function was the provision and control of the Shawbury Approved School and the Field House and Forhill House Remand Homes, as well as the various reception and observation centres for children received into care. In April 1973, under the Children and Young Persons Act of 1969, the Shawbury Approved School and the Field House and Forhill House Remand Homes were redefined as community homes, which gave them the same legal status as other children’s homes, and meant that the sub-committee was disbanded, with the administration of these new homes taken on by the Residential Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/DJ/4) and the Community Support and Field Services Sub-Committee (see BCC/1/DJ/5). |
