| Description | Birmingham Reference Library assembled an artificial collection of glass lantern slides in the period 1915-1955, through a series of donations, bequests and purchases from both private and corporate sources. This collection was used by a library loan scheme, whereby members of the public could borrow sets of slides to use as visual aids. Sets were also distributed to branch libraries for specialist lectures whose aim was to promote public use of the library service. Whilst this collection is known to contain items from a range of sources, it is not feasible to attempt to trace their original provenance at this time.
