| AdminHistory | Birmingham had been bombed by the German Air Force since August 1940. The Reconstruction Committee was appointed in February 1942 and consisted of at least a dozen councillors. Its function was to consider and make recommendation to the Council upon matters relevant to the future development and welfare of the city and its inhabitants, with special reference to conditions likely to arise at end after the conclusion of hostilities. Matters the committee considered included unemployment, disabled citizens, social hygiene and recreation, food and fuel supplies, local government, and industrial and civic development. |
