AdminHistoryThis joint committee was established in April 1905, and consisted of representatives from the Poor Law Unions of Birmingham, Aston and Kings Norton. The Unions combined in order to provide, furnish and maintain a joint workhouse for the reception of epileptic and feeble-minded persons not considered mentally insane. The committee established the Monyhull Colony at Kings Norton, utilising Monyhull Hall, its outbuildings and 128 acres of estate. The committee appointed a Matron, Medical Officer and Farm Bailiff, with the hospital opening in 1908. The committee was disbanded in March 1912, after the Unions were combined after the Greater Birmingham Extension Act, 1911.
