AdminHistoryThe Aston and Handsworth Joint Sewage Committee was established in July 1899 as a joint committee of the Aston Manor, Handsworth, Smethwick and Erdington local councils on sewerage. The committee co-ordinated the maintenance, repairs and construction of sewers, as well as the maintaining the good condition of river water within their areas. In 1911, Aston Manor, Erdington and Handsworth were incorporated into Birmingham, and was disbanded that year. When the committee reformed in March 1916, the name had changed to Birmingham and Smethwick Joint Sewerage Committee, where it continued the functions of its predecessor until February 1939.
