A translation, from the expansion in Latin entitled "De dignitate & augmentis scientiarum", of: Of the proficience and advancement of learning.; Part 1 of the projected "Instauratio magna"; The title page and frontispiece are engraved and signed by William Marshall. At head of title: Instaur· Mag· P· I·.; The imprint date is printed using turned c's.; The text proper begins new pagination and register.; Running title reads: Of the aduancement of learning.; The colophon is dated 1640. A variant (STC 1167) has colophon dated 1639.
