| Description | These volumes contain the orders sent out by the central authority to the Aston Board of Guardians, orders that were meant both specifically for that Union, and those which were more wide-ranging. The orders date from the creation of Aston Union in 1836, and are therefore a valuable source in showing how it operated from its inception. As well as detailing the precise role of the Guardians and the paid officials within the Union, the orders also cover topics such as alterations to the Erdington workhouse, the classification of the poor within the Union and their employment, and the regulation of elections for Guardians. The volumes are indexed. |
