Date1880 - 1912
DescriptionAston Union's Guardians first appointed a Building Committee during the period 1836-1839 (see index to GP AS/2/1/1 - the actual entry is missing), but from the records of the Board it appears that a new committee was created each time any major construction work was carried out on the workhouse or other Union buildings. Typically, the committee consisted of 6 members of the Board, although this could change depending on the current level of building work.

The surviving minutes of the Building Committee date from 1880, up until the amalgamation of the Aston, King's Norton and Birmingham Unions in 1912. The volumes contain details on all aspects of the physical condition of the Union buildings, describing any work carried out on them and by whom, and setting out the costs involved. The minutes are a particularly useful source with regard to the founding of Erdington cottage homes in 1899, especially when used in conjunction with both the Board minutes (see above, GP AS/2/1/39 and following), and those of the Cottage Homes Committee (see above, GP AS/2/4/1-3). The volumes are indexed.
