| Description | The Order Book contains details of those individuals making applications for poor relief outside the Workhouse. Only a single volume relating to Aston Union survives, covering Relief District No.2 - an area that, from examining the Order Book, appears to have contained all or part of Aston parish. As well as the name of the applicant, the Book includes information on where the individual lives and the level of relief ordered by the Guardians, whether in money or in kind. Commonly, this took the form of food, but references are also made to individuals being moved into medical institutions and asylums. The period over which the relief is to continue is given, along with any other orders given by the Board. The volume is not indexed, and is in chronological order, as and when each case was brought before the Guardians. |
