| Description | The Western Road House Engineering committee was founded in 1912 by the Western Road House sub-committee, which was in turn subsidiary to the House committee. Consisting of four Guardians, its purpose was 'to make recommendations with respect to matters relating to the engineering department and tradesmen employees with power to authorise supplies and sign invoices.' (See GP B/2/1/81).
The volumes contain information on aspects of the workhouse such as the supply of gas and coal, and the provision of new equipment such as boilers and furnaces. There is also some information on the staff in charge of these duties, and those tradesmen supplying goods and services to the workhouse. |
