| Description | A brief survey of the sub-committee's minutes appears to show that it was under the aegis of the Visiting and General Purposes committee, with the surviving volume containing several resolutions passed by the latter. There also appear to be links between it and the Oakum Room sub-committee (see GP B/2/3/10, below), as the full title of the volume is the 'Able Bodied Women's Sub-Committee Minute Book (Oakum Rooms, Great Charles Street).'
The volume contains references to the numbers of able bodied women (and, in some cases, men) put to work by the Union and their weekly average earnings. However, whilst these figures are alluded to, they are not actually given - the minutes commonly refer to their submission to the committee, rather than giving any more detail. The committee also frequently questioned the paupers, to determine whether or not their current level of relief should remain the same, and the minutes do contain some references to individuals. Whilst their employment is not specified, it was probably oakum picking, about which further details can be found below at GP B/2/3/10. The file is not indexed. |
