| Description | The Infirmary Building committee was formed in November 1885 'to superintend the carrying out of the proposal to build an infirmary,' (see GP B/2/4/2/1) and consisted of eight Guardians. The infirmary was built close to the existing workhouse, and was completed in 1889, when the committee was itself discontinued, its duties being taken over by the Infirmary Management committee (see GP B/2/4/4, below). Prior to the building of the infirmary, medical care was provided in wards within the workhouse, but with the construction of these new premises the Guardians were able to increase their capacity.
The volume contains minutes relating to all aspects of the infirmary's construction, from the advertisement for tenders from architects, through to the actual building work being carried out. The volume is not indexed. |
