| Description | The Dudley Road Infirmary sub-committee was created in 1912 following the amalgamation of the Aston, Birmingham and King's Norton Unions. Reporting directly to the Infirmaries (later the Hospitals) committee (see GP B/2/4/8), and consisting of nine Guardians, it was the sub-committee's job to monitor the day-to-day running of the infirmary - including the appointment of staff and the care of individual patients. The sub-committee was also required, along with the Erdington and Selly Oak Infirmary sub-committees, to report regularly to the Infirmaries committee, which would in turn report to the Board of Guardians. During the First World War, the hospital was requisitioned for use by the military, but was returned to the Guardians in 1919. Its name changed from Dudley Road Infirmary to Dudley Road Hospital around 1922, but the exact date in unclear. The sub-committee continued to operate up until the dissolution of Birmingham Union in 1929-1930, but the minutes for the period post-1918 do not survive.
The minutes contain details on all of the day-to-day functions of the hospital, as outlined above. Unless indicated otherwise, the volumes are not indexed. |
