| Description | The Boarding Out sub-committee was founded in April 1912. According to the Board of Guardians minutes for that period, the sub-committee consisted of 'the six lady members of the [Boarding Out] committee, [and] has been appointed to deal with the maternity cases and also with urgent cases for boarding out or arising under the Children Act.' (see GP B/2/1/81) Along with deciding on applications for indoor relief from single mothers, the committee was also responsible for placing new mothers into the care of private foster homes or other charitable institutions. The volume contains details on these applications, and on the eventual outcome of individual cases. |
