TitleReconstruction of No19 Summer Hill Terrace sub-committee
LevelSub Series
Date1907
DescriptionFollowing a report into the overcrowded state of the Union's Girls' School, made in 1904 by a sub-committee to the Board of Guardians, the Board decided to purchase premises on Summer Hill Terrace to relieve the congestion. At first, these premises were used just for those girls under the care of the Union, but it appears that further building work was carried out on Summer Hill Terrace to increase its capacity. In 1907 a sub-committee was set up to oversee this expansion, and the minutes for it survive in this volume.

The minutes detail the work of the sub-committee, which consisted of seven Guardians. The purpose of the later building work was to provide a receiving home for the children coming under the care of the Union, children who would eventually be moved on to more permanent accommodation either within the Cottage Homes or in private foster homes. The volume contains details on the discussions between the sub-committee and the architect responsible for designing the extension, and also the acceptance of tenders from builders. The volume is not indexed.
