TitleMaintenance and Settlement Committee
LevelSub Series
Date1912 - 1930
DescriptionThe Maintenance and Settlement committee was created in 1912, following the amalgamation of the Aston, Birmingham and King's Norton unions. Consisting of seven Guardians, the committee was responsible for 'all matters connected with the settlement and removal of persons relieved[the making of] orders upon the relatives of persons maintained by this Union as to contributing to their support, and to institute proceedings against persons refusing or neglecting to contribute or against persons deserting their families [And] to have the control and direction of Collectors of repaid relief, Settlement and Warrant Officers' (see GP B/2/1/81). The committee was originally called the Revision and Settlement committee, but the name was changed at the committee's first meeting. The committee continued to operate up until the dissolution of the Union in 1930. The volumes contain details on all of these duties, and frequent references to individuals and families.
