| Description | In 1905, the Local Government Board issued an order relating to the feeding and welfare of children attending Public Elementary schools. This allowed the Guardians to give relief to the children as and when necessary, and to re-claim the cost from neglectful parents where possible. A copy of this order can be found in the King's Norton Union collection (see GP/KN/1/3/3).
This volume contains the introductory minutes of a conference of representatives from the Aston, Birmingham and King's Norton Unions, which met 'with a view to formulating a common line of action by the three Boards in carrying out the foregoing Order' (see GP B/11/3/1). However, the main source of information is a copy of the memorandum prepared by the three clerks to the Guardians detailing how the order was to be carried out. Along with these details, the memorandum also includes statistics on the number of underfed children in those schools in and around Birmingham. The volume is not indexed. |
