TitleExaminations of Paupers
LevelSub Series
Date1838 - 1846
DescriptionThis volume contains details on those examinations made of paupers by the Board of Guardians which were intended to determine where each individual was rightfully settled, and therefore where they should claim poor relief. The reports of each examination were written onto pre-printed sheets, and are therefore very similar, beginning with the name of the pauper, her age and the date on which the examination took place. This is followed by details of the individual's movements, including their place of birth, also often refers to any family that they may have. As such, the volume is a useful source for tracing individuals, but limited in that it only covers the years 1838-1846. The volume is indexed by the name of the pauper being examined.
