TitleHighbury Home Inmates Referral Book
LevelSub Series
Date1933 - 1948
DescriptionBuilt by Joseph Chamberlain in 1879-1880, Highbury Hall continued to be his residence until his death in 1914. Subsequently becoming a hospital, in 1932 the property was given to the Corporation of Birmingham, with Chamberlain's study and breakfast room being opened as a museum. The remainder of the building was used as a home for aged women and it is from this period that this particular volume dates. This contains the name and age of each individual housed within the home during the period 1933-1948, along with where they had been admitted from - usually one of the local hospitals or one-time workhouses. Also included are some medical details regarding each case - and it is for this reason that the volume is subject to a 100-year closure period.
