| Description | Two Vaccination Acts passed in 1840 and 1841 afforded increased facilities for vaccination, its administration being the responsibility of the Guardians, under the direction of the Poor Law Board. Birmingham appears to have had a programme of vaccination that pre-dates this legislation, but unlike the Aston and King's Norton Unions it is unclear how the union was divided up for this purpose. Surprisingly, the only records relating to vaccination in Birmingham Union pre-1912 to have survived are those volumes listed at GP B/29/1-2 - the remaining records, which date from after the amalgamation of the Aston, King's Norton and Birmingham Unions, were originally accessioned as part of the King's Norton collection. Their original locations are described below, alongside the records themselves. |
