TitleLocal Government Board Order re: Cottage Homes regulations and accounts
LevelItem
Date1887
DescriptionKing's Norton Union was responsible for the founding of Shenley Fields Cottage Homes in 1887. The minutes of the committee responsible for supervising the homes still survive (see GP KN/2/6, below), but also extant is this Government Order, detailing the rules to be enforced in the homes, and the types of records to be kept by the staff. The order contains separate sections on the admission and discharge of children, discipline and diet within the homes, and the punishments to be inflicted for unruly behaviour. Also included are instructions to the Union's Visiting Committee, whose job it was to supervise the management of the homes, and descriptions of the various officers employed there and their duties. Copies of those printed forms to be used in the administration of the homes form an appendix to the order - these include the various registers recording each child's details, admission and discharge forms and account books.
