TitleChildren's Act Committee
LevelSub Series
Date1908 - 1912
DescriptionAs a result of the 1908 legislation, and upon the recommendation of the General Purposes Committee, the Guardians of King's Norton Union appointed their own Children's Act Committee in May 1909. The Committee's main purposes were to 'deal with all matters arising under the Children's Act', and be 'empowered to engage whatever assistance they may think requisite and generally to act as they deem fit in giving effect to the provisions of the Act' (see GP KN/2/1/42).

The volume contains the proceedings of the Committee, but these are very brief, and describe only seven meetings during the period. There are some references to individual cases, but the fullest sources are the typed reports made by the Union visitor, Miss Hayward, and included in the volume. These were made after inspecting the homes where children were being maintained, and describe the number of visits made, the conditions seen by the visitor, and the actions (if any) taken by her. Also included in the volume is the Committee's Annual Report for 1912. The volume is not indexed.
