TitleThe Children's Hospital Brick League
LevelSub Series
Date1932 - 1948
DescriptionThe Children's Hospital Brick League was established in 1913 and introduced by Mrs J. E. Player, one of the first female members of the Committee of Management appointed in 1911. Its main aim was to contribute funds for the building of the new hospital at Ladywood. The 'Scheme for a Brick Laying Ceremony' was such that any child who gave one guinea to the Building Fund should have his or her initials cut onto a brick and be invited to lay it at a grand brick laying ceremony in July 1913. The Brick League proper was inaugurated in October of 1913 and after the establishment of the National Health Service in 1948 transformed into the League of Friends (see HC BCH/1/13/26-28). For photographs of Brick Laying Ceremonies and other relevant photographs see HC BCH/7/9/2.
